About The Role

At MO, strategic procurement is essential in supporting the business in maximising value for money for our customers. As supplier markets evolve and increase in complexity, our approach to strategic procurement is critical in achieving MO’s strategic objectives. To support this, we have a dedicated Procurement team that sits within the wider Business Risk function.

The Procurement Team plays a leading role in ensuring that MO follows best practice procurement that helps to reduce supply, supplier and contractual risk. Our Procurement Business Partners work closely with the SLT (Strategic Leadership Team) and senior stakeholders on supplier management and securing optimum commercial terms. The Procurement Team is leading the establishment of a TPRM framework (Third Party Risk Management) to set the standard of supplier due diligence and how we monitor risks in life. This approach aims to consolidate the wider risk domains relating to ESG/Sustainability, Adverse Media, Financial, CyberSec with Procurement leading this agenda.

Procurement Business Partners are pivotal in how we procure strategically by working with the SLT to forecast key procurement activities in advance, shaping go to market strategies whilst adjusting to evolving business needs. The work performed by the Procurement Business Partners is essential in providing assurance to the Executive and Board on MO’s most significant areas of expenditure, supplier risk and decision making.

MO is innovating at pace to keep up with market opportunities meaning that the need for risk-adjusted procurement and agility remains key in ensuring that the Exec and the Board achieve strong outcomes for our customers, aligned to the long-term strategy. 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic procurement activity incl. proactively leading on contract renewals through collaboration with respective SLT member.
  • Leading the development of Third-Party Risk Management framework to support leadership in decision making.
  • Lead the evaluation of optimal sourcing and pricing options, taking into consideration outsourcing, hybrid and insourcing models.
  • Co-creation of Strategic Supplier Strategies with senior stakeholders.
  • Conducting vendor/market intelligence gathering activities to be highly aware of the suppliers’ future plans, financial performance and market positioning.
  • Identify, manage and minimise/mitigate supplier and contractual risk through in-life contract management activities.
    Operating as the Procurement single point of contact for stakeholders and support with supplier disputes or poor supplier performance.
  • Lead the procurement of new services (tender process, negotiating with suppliers, drafting contracts and schedules) proving commerciality and value for money.
  • Collaborating closely with Business Stakeholders, Business Risk, IT Security, Architecture, PMO and Legal Services.

About You

Minimum Criteria:
  • Experience in negotiating ‘XaaS’ technology contracts with awareness of key risks and terms.
  • Ability to process complex facts or situations requiring analysis, interpretation, comparison of a range of options.
  • Considerable experience in IT Procurement/Service Delivery/Vendor Manager roles
  • Experience of working with Tier 1 suppliers.
  • Strong understanding of key procurement processes.
  • Understanding of different software licensing metrics.
